With Myles Garrett’s new deal raising the price to $40M/year and little to no progress made between the Cowboys and Micah Parsons on an extension, a trade isn’t off the table with the way Jerry Jones manages that team.

Ben Johnson’s move to Chicago now means the #Raiders’ head coaching search continues. They’ve interviewed Aaron Glenn, Steve Spagnuolo, Pete Carroll, Robert Saleh, Vance Joseph and Ron Rivera, and Tom Brady has spoken with Bill Belichick about the job as well.

After turning down opportunities in each of the last two hiring cycles, Ben Johnson was in a better place this year to take the next step in his career. He’s still only 38 years old as he prepares to take the reins of one of the NFL’s most iconic franchises in Chicago.

A new day in Chicago: The #Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach, per sources. Johnson is set to fly there soon and contract parameters are in place. Barring a last-minute snag, the #Lions OC lands with an NFC North rival.

The #Browns are promoting Tommy Rees to offensive coordinator, per sources. A former Notre Dame star QB, Rees becomes one of the NFL’s youngest coordinators at age 32. He previously had stints at ND and Alabama as OC/QB coach before joining Kevin Stefanski’s staff last year.

Mike McCarthy’s interview with the #Bears on Wednesday will be at Halas Hall. An important day in Chicago’s search.

The #Bears’ interview with Mike McCarthy is now set for Wednesday, per sources. After parting ways with the #Cowboys, McCarthy has interest from multiple teams. But the Bears — whom McCarthy has beaten more (19 times) than any other NFL team — get the first crack.

#Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer tells me “all options are open” on his future after Dallas and Mike McCarthy parted ways Monday. Zimmer and other Dallas assistants whose contracts expired are now allowed to interview elsewhere. “I really enjoy coaching,” Zimmer said.

Longtime NFL defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is scheduled to interview with the #Falcons today and the #Colts on Wednesday, per sources. The #Bengals also could have interest in Martindale, who is college football’s highest-paid coordinator at Michigan. One to watch.

The #Bears requested an interview with #Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich for their head coaching job, per source. It’s the first interview for Stenavich, a former NFL offensive lineman who has been an asset to Matt LaFleur.

Sources: Mike McCarthy is out as #Cowboys coach. The sides couldn’t agree on length of contract and McCarthy will pursue other opportunities. He leaves Dallas with a winning record and three playoff appearances.

Time is of the essence now for both sides as they move to the business phase: Virtually all the #Cowboys assistant coaches also would be free to take other jobs starting next Tuesday, and Mike McCarthy will need time to assemble his staff, whether in Dallas or elsewhere.

There have been no negotiations yet and still are other issues to work through. McCarthy’s contract is set to expire Tuesday, giving Dallas a few more days to work out a deal. Otherwise, McCarthy would be free to pursue other opportunities.

After several days of discussions about the 2024 season and the future, #Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and coach Mike McCarthy remain open to moving forward together and the sides are expected to open talks today on a new contract to keep him in Dallas, per sources.
